All views of this Patient

Patient with cancer of the left breast with history of previous left modified radical mastectomy including removal of breast, skin and lymphnodes in axilla (underarm). She had additional treatment afterwards with significant chemotherapy and radiation to the left chest wall leaving thin, tight and stiff left chest wall skin.

Breast reconstruction was performed with her own abdominal tissue sparing the abdominal muscle (DIEP flap).

Left breast: DIEP flap breast reconstruction

Right breast: No surgery

Postoperative views following left breast reconstruction, subsequent second stage (outpatient) procedure and areola tattoo.

Light colored skin over reconstructed left side is skin from the abdomen used to replace irradiated and resected left chest wall skin. Sufficient abdominal tissue was present to reconstruct a proportional left breast even in this thin patient. Intact abdominal muscles are visible on both sides of abdomen in all photo views.
