Breast Reconstruction Procedure Information
DIEP flap The DIEP flap is state-of-the-art surgery designed for a breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease. Dr. Granzow routinely performs this surgery and his extensive training and experience in this procedure allow him to achieve consistent and superior aesthetic results.
SIEA flap Siimilar to the DIEP flap, the SIEA flap utilizes tissue from the abdomen to recreate the natural look and feel of a woman's own breast tissue. While the blood vessels used in this flap are slightly different than that of a DIEP flap, the final result is similar to that achieved with a DIEP flap.
SGAP flap Also a perforator (muscle sparing) flap, the SGAP flap utilizes skin and fat from the upper buttock area to recreate the natural look and feel of breast tissue.
IGAP flap Similar to the SGAP flap, the IGAP flap uses tissue from the lower portion fo the buttock to reconstruct the look and feel of a native breast.

Alternate Breast Reconstruction Procedure Information
Latissimus flap The latissimus muscle flap utulizes tissue from the upper torso and back to reconstruct the breast. A small breast implant is often required underneath this flap to provide adequate breast volume.
Tissue Expanders and Implants Similar to cosmetic breast implants, this type of breast reconstruction is commonly used by community Plastic Surgeons when a patient's own tissue is not available .
Pedicle TRAM flap An older methods of breast reconstruction which requires the use of the entire rectus abdominis (belly "six pack") muscle to transfer the skin and fat from the abdomen to the chest for breast reconstruction..
Free TRAM flap Similar pedicle TRAM flap, the free TRAM flap uses some or all of the rectus abdominis (belly "six pack") muscle to reconstruct a breast. Like more advanced flaps, this flap requires microsurgical experience.
Other Methods Additional methods of breast reconstruction are available for breast reconstruction for use in unusual situations.

Related Procedure Information
Breast Augmentation, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast. Because breast reconstruction may produce a result which is better than the opposite, unreconstructed side, breast augmentation may be used to improve the shape and appearance of the opposite breast for symmetry.
Breast Reduction, is designed for women with very large, pendulous breasts who experience medical problems caused by the excessive weight. A breast reduction may be needed for symmetry of the opposite breast after reconstruction.
Breast Lift, or Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. This may be required to raise and shape the opposite, unaffected breast to match the improved appearance of a breast reconstruction flap.
Tummy Tuck, or Abdominoplasty, is a major surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen. Breast reconstructions utilizing abdominal tissue, such as the DIEP or SIEA flap, approximate the result of a tummy tuck in the abdominal area.
